Dr. Politis, Ph.D. in Management, has been recognised as the 2007-2008 ‘Faculty of the Year’ of Dubai Men’s College. Moreover, John has received from the Office of The Vice Chancellor the Merit Pay Bonus for the year 2007-2008, in recognition of his excellent performance. He is also a Teaching Excellence Award Winner, 2004, from the ACBSP Baccalaureate/ Graduate Degree Commission. In addition, he is the Literati Club Highly Commended Award Winner, 2004; and Literati Club Excellence Award Winner, 2002, for his Outstanding Research Papers.

Dr. Politis was a Pioneering Faculty and Curriculum Leader of the Engineering Management Program, Faculty of Business and Engineering, Higher Colleges of Technology, in the United Arab Emirates, and is currently a member of a number of editorial boards.

Before taking up this position, Dr. Politis was a lecturer and consultant at the University of Technology, Sydney; University of Western Sydney; Central Queensland University, Sydney International Campus; and Macquarie Graduate School of Management in Australia. He has also spent more than 18 years in Australia and Europe in a wide range of managerial roles.

Dr. Politis has earned the following professional qualifications: a Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Business Leadership from the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia; a Graduate Certificate in Enterprise Management from Swinburne University of Technology, Australia; a Graduate Certificate on Online Education and Training from University of London, UK; a Diplom-Ingenieur-Mechanical (5 years study – German equivalent to M.S. degree) from Aristotelion University, Greece; a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Melbourne, Australia; and a Certificate of Technology in Aircraft Engineering from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia.

Dr. Politis elected a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Australia; Fellow of Institution of Professional Engineers, NZ; Associate Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management; Chartered Professional Engineer of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers; Chartered Professional Engineer–European Federation of National Engineering Associations; and Chartered Professional Engineer–Technical Chamber of Greece.

Teaching Areas: Organisational Behaviour, Leadership, HRM, Operations Management, Business Process Management, Project Management and Total Quality Management (TQM).

Research Interests: Leadership (Self-management Leadership), Organisational Behaviour, HRM, Knowledge Management, Innovation, Creativity, Self-managing Teams and TQM. The research area for his Ph.D was self-leadership and self-managing teams and he has published extensively in this area. He has also addressed numerous international conferences over the past seven years.
